Pi Network, a decentralized cryptocurrency platform, has announced that it will officially transition to the Open Network phase of its Mainnet on February 20, 2025, at 8:00 AM UTC. This milestone marks the culmination of over six years of development and community engagement, aiming to establish an inclusive peer-to-peer ecosystem powered by Pi, the platform's native cryptocurrency.
Since the launch of its Enclosed Network period in December 2021, Pi Network has focused on allowing Pioneers to complete KYC (Know Your Customer) verification, enabling developers to build applications within the ecosystem, and enhancing various platform features. The Enclosed Network phase provided a controlled environment to prepare for the Open Network by restricting external connectivity while fostering internal development.
The transition to the Open Network will remove these restrictions, allowing Pi to interface with external networks and systems. This development enables Pioneers to conduct transactions beyond the Pi ecosystem, significantly expanding the utility and reach of the cryptocurrency. Additionally, the platform will implement compliance measures, requiring KYC verification for individual participants and KYB (Know Your Business) verification for businesses to maintain a secure and compliant environment.
Leading up to this launch, Pi Network has achieved significant milestones, including surpassing 10.14 million Mainnet migrations and verifying over 19 million Pioneers through its KYC solution. The platform has also cultivated a vibrant ecosystem with over 100 Mainnet or Mainnet-ready applications, contributing to a diverse range of utilities for its users.
As the Open Network phase approaches, Pi Network encourages Pioneers to continue engaging with the platform by completing KYC verification, participating in mining activities, and utilizing Pi applications. Developers are also urged to refine existing applications and create new solutions to further enrich the ecosystem.
The launch of the Open Network represents a significant step forward in Pi Network's mission to build a decentralized, peer-to-peer ecosystem that empowers individuals and businesses worldwide.
